Why is it that the government can MAKE you pay taxes???? Our forefathers came here to get away from taxes.?

Also why is it that there is not supposed to be any double taxation, yet every time a car changes owners that new owner has to pay taxes on something that has had taxes paid on it many times before? I am tired of paying our government for nothing. I don't mind paying taxes from my pay checks only because I get a return, but everything else!!!!! It all seems like extortion to me.
